Steve Holt- Roku Dan

Steve Holt began his study of the Wado-Ryu style of Karate in 1986 under the instruction of Mr. Bill Taylor. He earned his 1st Degree Black Belt in 1989 and was awarded his 6th Degree Black Belt in 2007.

Originally, Mr. Holt was drawn to the Martial Arts because of a life long fascination for it, and he was looking for a way to continue being active in sports after High School. Karate seemed to be the perfect avenue.

Mr. Holt began teaching for Mr. Taylor as a brown belt in 1989 when he became the President and Instructor of the Karate Club of Middle Tennessee State University, where Mr. Taylor taught a course. He began teaching for Mr. Taylor at his professional school at this time. His skill and enthusiasm led Mr. Taylor to name him Program Director at the Bushido School of Karate in 1995.

Mr. Holt currently teaches adult and children's programs six days a week and continues to train under the instruction of Mr. Taylor. One of Mr. Holt's favorite classes to instruct, because it is extremely challenging and rewarding, is the 3-5 year old Kinder Karate class.

Mr. Holt has worked out under the present Grand Master of Wado-Ryu Karate, Hironori Otsuka II, on several occasions. He has also trained in several seminars instructed by Sensei Kazutaka Otsuka as well as such notable Wado masters as Masafumi Shiomitsu (8th Degree), 9th degree Black Belt, Koji Takamatsu, as well as numerous times under the watchful eye of 8th degree Black Belt the-late Cecil T. Patterson, former head of the United States Eastern Wado Ryu Karate-Do Federation (U.S.E.W.K.F.).

Among his many achievements, Mr. Holt placed 1st in Black Belt kata at the annual USEWKF tournament from 1997 through 2003. Mr. Holt competed for the first time since 2003 and was extremely honored to have placed 1st in kata in the 6th degree Black Belts only division at the 2008 USEWKF tournament, and he was a member of one of the winning teams in the team fighting competition.
